The 1" works great on bikes where you have a threaded headset but no room for a front brake cable hanger betwixt the upper and lower nuts of the headset. It goes right on a quill stem’s quill. A locking bolt lets you position it where you want and snug it down so it won’t spin around like Aunt Martha at Thanksgiving after her 2nd glass of Pino.

The 1 1/8" one lines up nicely with steel stems and thin headset spacers.
